What is a Freshman?
You are considered a freshman applicant if you meet the following criteria:
- First-Time College Student: You have not previously attended a college, university, or post-secondary institution.
- High School Graduate or Equivalent: You have earned a high school diploma, GED, or TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion).
- No Prior College Credits: You may have taken college courses during high school (e.g., College Now or AP credits), but you have not yet enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a college.
Freshman vs. Transfer
If you’ve attended another college or university after high school, you’re considered a transfer student, not a freshman.
Things To Know First
To apply as a freshman, you must meet the following requirements:
- Complete the CUNY application
- Pay the $65.00 CUNY application fee
- Submit official high school transcripts or GED or TASC to CUNY/UAPC
- Academic Requirements:
- High school GPA of 65 or better OR
- GED score of 2250 or better OR
- TASC score of 2500 or better
- Academic Requirements:
- If applicable, submit proof of New York State residency for in-state tuition rates
