Program Advisement Policies
The BSSW degree program provides students with advisement and mentorship support throughout their studies. Students who have accumulated 0-30 credits receive advisement regarding general education requirements through the Academic Advising Center (AAC).
Although mentorship by BSSW faculty is provided during the 1st and 2nd year of a student’s career, upon completion of 30 credits, students are strongly encouraged to meet with a social work faculty member regarding pre-admission assignment to a BSSW Program Mentor. Faculty advisors will work with students to discuss their educational performance and progress and career opportunities. Faculty advisors can provide letters of reference for employment and recommendation letters for graduate school.
Advisement Procedures Each
BSSW student is assigned to a BSSW faculty member for advisement in all BSSW program areas upon admission to the social work program. Every attempt is made to ensure that the assigned faculty advisor who is assigned to students remains with that student until graduation. Students are required to meet with their advisors at least once every semester to discuss appropriate courses, and review career and academic goals. Students can request additional meetings with their advisors to discuss other issues of concern as needed.
