Developmental Education

National reports indicate that many students are entering higher education institutions with insufficient skills to master college-level work. At Medgar Evers College, we are committed to improving the developmental education needs of all students and have established more extensive methodologies in our approach to higher education for this diverse, urban city. We believe that Developmental Education needs a more holistic, developmentally appropriate, and culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogical approach. This approach, established among education faculty with combined content, pedagogy, research, developmental psychology and special education expertise, in collaboration with content faculty in mathematics and English, will provide developmental education to students needing it, as well as prepare personnel in appropriately administering developmental education, using the Developmental Education Implementation Center at MEC.
