General Education Subcommittee Charge:

  1. Provide oversight of the College process of professional development activities that reflect the essential student learning outcomes in critical thinking and written communication.
  2. Ensure that MEC complies with CUNY direction/mandates on Pathways.
  3. Assess multiple sections within the common core and college option, including:
  4. Determine which courses and sections should be assessed and provide schedule.
  5. Provide oversight of the professional development days in June of each year to evaluate writing samples.
  6. Develop a plan to assess online courses.
  7. Develop a plan to assess high-fail Gen Ed courses.
  8. Identification of an external instrument to validate and/or provide a benchmark and guidance to Gen Ed assessment activities.
  9. Identify a point prior to the Capstone to assess the effectiveness of Gen Ed.

  1. Ensure the completion of program and course mapping.
  2. Ensure the alignment of course and program level goals and objectives.
  3. Ensure the alignment of program-level goals and objectives to institutional mission and Strategic Plan.
  4. Ensure all departments are using the OAA syllabus template.
  5. Monitor academic departments’ progress toward use of the MEC syllabi template.
  6. Review and approve Assessment Plans.
  7. Develop a calendar to establish and review department level assessment plans, effective program outcomes, and student learning outcomes.
  8. Determine adherence to Academic Program Review calendar.

Institutional Assessment

Institutional Assessment Subcommittee Charge:

  1. Develop templates to collect current status in the implementation of processes as stated in the MEC Assessment Plan. (Stage 2, work with other subcommittees to collect such data)
  2. Develop subcommittee research on special topics in institutional effectiveness.
  3. Recommend OIRA assessment reports to be presented to the full committee.
  4. When needed, work with the Middle States Coordinator to track implementation of Middle States visitors and College’s own recommendations.
