AB1 Building will be temporarily offline on Monday, February 9, 2026, due to freezing temperatures causing the sprinkler to malfunction resulting in flooding from the third floor to the basement. All classes scheduled in the AB1 Building will be held remotely. All other buildings are open for regular operations. For students enrolled in AB1-building classes who need access for their remote instruction, there are computers available in the computer labs that will enable you to logon to your class.

Celebrating Dr. John Flateau’s birthday with the launch of namesake scholarship

Over the past two months, the world has recognized the larger-than-life figure that Dr. John Flateau was, is and will continue to be.

On February 24, Dr. Flateau would have celebrated his 74th birthday.

But we are still celebrating in his name, as the beloved Medgar Evers College professor, leader, political strategist and family man deserves the pomp and circumstance.

And as a reflection of the humble giant that he was, the Flateau family and Medgar Evers College are launching a scholarship fund to help students in his honor.

You can give as little or as much as you want to through our Medgar Evers College Educational Foundation portal — we’ve even gone ahead and filled in the dropdown for the scholarship you want to contribute to.

The Dr. John Flateau Scholarship Fund will allow his legacy to live on for years to come, continuing to serve the Medgar Evers College community by aiding students in attaining their educational dreams.

We thank you for considering donating to the fund in his honor, as giving back was his life’s mission and both the family and college will continue to do everything to honor that dedication.

Happy birthday, Dr. Flateau!
