Is the New General Education Program for You

Students enrolled prior to Fall 2013

If you were previously enrolled at Medgar Evers College and you have not completed all general educations requirements in effect when you enrolled, you have the option of following the old general education requirements, or you may change to the new requirements.  The choice to continue with the old requirements or to change to the new requirements should be based on a careful analysis of your record and educational aims.

What should you do about the new general education requirements?  If you have completed the general education requirements in effect when you enrolled, then you have finished that component of the degree requirements for your respective academic programs.  If you have not completed the old general education requirements, you should examine which program will enable you to accomplish your educational goals in the least time.

All continuing students who have not completed the general education requirements should examine which program is best for them. The Student Advocacy and Support Services Center (SASSC) should be consulted by students in deciding on whether to opt in or opt out of the new General Education program

Students enrolled on or after Fall 2013

All first-time freshmen who enter Medgar Evers in the Fall 2013 will take courses in the new General Education program.  First-time freshmen must complete the new general education curriculum.  Transfer students may receive credit for general education courses completed at another institution.

All students who enter Medgar Evers College as first-time freshmen in the fall of 2013, or later, must fulfill the new general education requirements. Students who are first-time freshmen and elect to take courses in the summer of 2013 must follow the new general education requirements.
