Mission

The School of Science and Allied Health is comprised of five academic departments: Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science, Mathematics, Nursing, and Physics and Computer Science. Housed in our 195,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art building, The School of Science and Allied Health enrolls over 40 percent of students in the College. The School boasts multi-million-dollar core research facilities in the areas of cellular-molecular biology and chemical analysis.

In recent years, The School of Science has grown significantly in critical areas: student enrollment, rates of graduation, faculty-hires, and faculty research grants. The college has engaged faculty, students, and alumni in competitive student research, seminars in Minority Health Issues and Women in Science and Math, Student Town Hall Meetings, the Student Mentoring Support Initiative, and annual faculty-student-staff recognition.

Our students continue to earn their place on the Dean’s Honor List, they present their research presentations at conferences, and win prizes. We continue promoting the academic and professional success of our students through tutoring, topical workshops, individualized pre-professional advising, research internships, volunteer experience placements, invited lectures, faculty mentoring, and student club activities.

The School plans to increase its enrollment by partnering the MEC pipeline initiative with local high schools, hiring additional faculty active in research, supplementing existing in-house student research experiences, and extending degree offerings to career-oriented programs in allied health areas that have high employment prospects.
