The African Diaspora Literature Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree is your two-year passport to exploring the diverse voices, traditions, and complex cultures of people across the African Diaspora. This program prepares you for a future in English, communications, or publishing and gives you the perfect start for earning a four-year bachelor’s degree. You’ll dive deep into powerful literature that shapes how we understand the world.

The African Diaspora Literature A.A. degree immerses you in rich, unique stories that reflect the beliefs and values of people throughout the diaspora. You’ll strengthen your writing and composition skills while taking specialized courses focused on this powerful literary field. If you love history, culture, and great books, this degree is the perfect way to build a strong foundation for a four-year degree in English or Literary Studies.

Requirements
General Education Requirements (CUNY Common Core & College Option)
These requirements align with the CUNY Common Core and College Option structure:
- Required Core (12 Credits):
- English Composition: ENGL 112 and ENGL 150.
- Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning: 1 course (e.g., MTH 115).
- Life and Physical Sciences: 1 course (e.g., BIO 101 or PHS 101).
- Flexible Core (18 Credits – 6 Courses): Complete one course in each of the five areas, plus an additional Flexible Core course in any area. No more than two courses from any one discipline are permitted.
- World Cultures and Global Issues
- U.S. Experience in its Diversity
- Creative Expressions
- Individual and Society (e.g., ECON 212 or ECON 213)
- Scientific World (e.g., CIS 101).
Major Requirements
Required Core Courses (19 Courses)
Students must complete ALL of the following required core courses (14 Courses):
- ENGL 210: Intermediate Composition
- ENGL 211: Introduction To Literary Studies
Elective
Students must fulfill both Liberal Arts and Business Elective requirements:
- Earn at least 6 English elective credits
Student Learning Outcomes
After completing the BPS in Applied Management, students should be able to:
- Deepen understanding of the cultural traditions, beliefs, world views, and values representative of people throughout the African diaspora.
