Description

The A.S. in Business Administration at Medgar Evers College is a two-year degree program designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and analytical skills required for success in the business world. This program offers a comprehensive introduction to key business functions, including accounting, economics, and management.

The A.S. degree serves two primary purposes:

  • Career Entry: It prepares graduates for entry-level administrative and support positions in various industries, enabling them to immediately contribute to organizations.
  • Transfer Pathway: It provides a strong, transferable foundation for students planning to continue their education and pursue a Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.B.A.) in Business, Accounting, or a related field at a four-year institution.

The curriculum balances required core liberal arts courses with essential business coursework, focusing on developing quantitative reasoning, communication, and basic business problem-solving skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:


  • Apply foundational knowledge of key business areas: Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of basic principles in management, marketing, accounting, and economics to address simple business problems.

  • Develop basic analytical and quantitative reasoning skills: Students will be able to analyze data and use quantitative tools to support decision-making in business scenarios.

  • Recognize ethical, legal, and social responsibilities in business: Students will be able to identify ethical issues and understand the role of legal and regulatory frameworks in business decisions.

  • Communicate effectively in business contexts: Students will be able to write and present information clearly for diverse audiences in professional settings.

Requirements

As part of your degree, you must fulfill the CUNY Pathways general education requirements, which consist of the Common Core (Required and Flexible) and the Medgar Evers College Option. These courses provide the essential quantitative, scientific, and socio-cultural literacy that complements your technical training.

Students must complete ALL of the following required core courses (9 Courses), ensuring a minimum grade of “C”.

    • General Business: ACCT 217, BUS 103, CIS 211, ECON 212, FIN 250, LAW 208, MAN 200, MAR 231, MTH 213
  • Major Elective
    • Business Electives: Earn at least 3 credits from the list of approved Business Electives.
