New Faculty: Dr. Michael Tessler

2023 New Faculty

Dr. Michael Tessler

Dr. Michael Tessler

Dr. Michael Tessler is a biologist with broad interests across the tree of life. His research uses advanced tools (environmental DNA, genomics, and bioinformatics) to examine how plants, animals, and microbes evolve and interact with their environments. His studies have led to a textbook (Phylogenomics: A Primer), media converge such as by the New York Times, and more than 40 publications (many with student co-authors). Michael looks forward to teaching courses at MEC that get students outside and engaging with nature, such as examining plant and animal interactions across the street at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
