Leadership Programs
The Office of Student Life & Development is dedicated to creating opportunities for the development of leadership skills. We provide a number of programs designed to do just that. They accommodate students in all stages of their leadership development – from the seasoned leader to those interested in getting into leadership roles.
Club training
We want all of our clubs and organizations to be successful. To this end, we provide training for the leadership of the organizations at the beginning of the fall semester. We cover everything from budgeting procedures to effective advertising techniques. Sign up over the summer. Training is open to club presidents and treasurers. Not a president or treasurer or even a member but still want the training? Come to our Leadership Lunches!
Leadership Lunches
Once a month, the Office of Student Life sponsors a lunch-time series of leadership workshops. Held during Club Hours on Wednesdays, they are topics that are necessary to become an effective leader. All are welcome and there is no charge.
Alternative Spring Break – Leadership Week
This week is designed to put you in front of the many aspects of New York City public policy that most people do not have access to. Over five packed days, you will visit elected officials, education systems, health care providers, the judicial system, and look at volunteerism in the City. There are limited slots available and all travel and food will be covered. Applications will be available in December.
The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)
The Medgar Evers College chapter of NSLS is a very active organization boasting over 450 members. It is open to students who have between 15-100 credits and a GPA higher than 2.7. Being a member of NSLS means you have access to presentations from renowned industry leaders and workshops. There is a membership fee but it’s worth the investment.
