Student Email Transition

Your New Student Email Is Almost Here! 📧

During Spring Break, Medgar Evers College is upgrading how you use email. We are moving to a new system that makes it easier to use Microsoft 365 apps (like Word and Teams) and keeps your information much safer.

📅 The Big Date: Monday, April 13, 2026

On this day, your new mailbox goes live. You don’t have to worry about missing messages—any emails sent to your old address will be automatically forwarded to your new one.

🔑 What is My New Login?

Your login will now be the same one you use for CUNYfirst.

  • Username: Firstname.Lastname##@login.cuny.edu
  • New Email Address: Firstname.Lastname##@mec.cuny.edu

🛡️ Step 1: Set Up Your New MFA (Do This Now!)

To enter your new email, CUNY requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This is a second layer of security to make sure only you can access your account.

How to set it up:

  1. Set up MFA for your new student email using your CUNY Login (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu) at https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo with the Microsoft Authenticator app.

    Note: This is separate from the MFA you use for CUNYfirst/Brightspace. You must set this one up specifically for Microsoft 365.

📦 Step 2: What Happens to My Old Emails?

  • Forwarding: For a limited time, any new mail sent to your old account will show up in your new inbox automatically.
  • Old Messages: Your past emails will be moved for you if you are currently an active student.
  • OneDrive Files: Your files in OneDrive will not move automatically. You should download any important school projects or documents from your old account and upload them to your new one after April 13.

💡 3 Things To Do Before Spring Break

  1. Clean Up: Delete old “junk” mail or newsletters you don’t need anymore.
  2. Save Files: Move your important OneDrive documents to a flash drive or your computer.
  3. Update Your Contacts: If you use your school email for Netflix, your bank, or other sites, plan to update those accounts with your new @mec.cuny.edu address after the switch.
