How to Apply
You must file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for academic year beginning October 1.
Note: The U.S. Department of Education will use the “prior-prior” year’s income information. This means your 2023 income information will be used for the Academic year 2025 – 2026 FAFSA.
File your FAFSA and TAP applications for academic year 2025 – 2026 on-line at FAFSA on the web.
– FAFSA Code: 010097
– TAP Code: 1415
Your eligibility for SUMMER 2025, FALL 2025 and SPRING 2026 for federal and NY State financial aid can only be determined through the filing of the 2025 – 2026 FAFSA.
What are the steps in applying for aid using the online FAFSA?
- When the FAFSA asks you to do so, click “Link to IRS” (i.e. the IRS Data Retrieval Tool). At that point, your FAFSA will be automatically saved and the link will transfer you to the IRS Web site. At the IRS Web site, enter the requested information. Upon validating your identity, the IRS will display your (and if requested, your parent’s) 2023 IRS tax information.
- Do not forget to enter Medgar Evers College’s FAFSA college code – 010097. At the end of the FAFSA form, if you do not have a PIN, print the signature page, sign and mail it.
- Do not forget to “Submit” the application.
Complete the 2025 – 2026 FAFSA
- Gather your (and parents, if needed) completed 2023 Federal and NYS Tax Returns.
- If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need a valid U.S. Residency card.
- Create a FSA ID, if you do not already have one. Student and parent must create an FSA ID. If you haven’t logged in to a Federal Student Aid site (such as fafsa.gov or StudentLoans.gov), you will need to create an FSA ID before you can log in.
- We encourage students to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. At that point, your FAFSA will be automatically saved and the link will transfer you to the IRS website. At the IRS website, enter the requested information. Upon validating your identity, the IRS will display your (and if requested, your parent’s) 2023 IRS tax information.
- If you choose NOT to transfer data from the IRS, you will be required to obtain “official” IRS tax transcripts of your (and if you are a dependent student, your parents) 2023 IRS tax information.
- Verification The Department of Education selects a certain number of applications for a process called Verification. Verification is the process your school uses to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA form is accurate. If you’re selected for verification, your school will request additional documentation that supports the information you reported. Students will not receive federal financial aid, grants, and loans until Verification is complete.
- Do not forget to enter Medgar Evers College’s FAFSA college code – 010097. At the end of the FAFSA form, if you do not have a PIN, print the signature page, sign and mail it.
- Do not forget to “Submit” the application.
