Bio
Dr. Magda Desgranges is Assistant Professor of African Diaspora Literature, Coordinator of the African Diaspora Literature program within the Department of English and World Languages at Medgar Evers College, and Affiliate Faculty with the Center for Black Literature. She is a Haitian educator, artist, and activist by way of Brooklyn who has taught in the United States, the Caribbean, West Africa, and Southeast Asia. She holds a PhD in Cultural Analysis and Theory/Cultural Studies from Stony Brook University, an MA in Pan-African Studies from the University of Louisville, and a BA in English and Media Studies from Hunter College. Dr. Desgranges is the founder of the brand strategy and visual art company, MD.Dezigns, LLC or MDZ. Her first manuscript in progress examines Haitian Feminisms and artistic expressions, particularly how Haitian women artists navigate time, space, and an ancestral modality of freedom practices. This research also infuses interdisciplinary pedagogical tools rooted in African epistemology and aesthetics. Dr. Desgranges is published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Haitian Studies (JOHS) and the Journal of Underrepresented and Minority Progress, with articles including “The Lambi Model: Haiti, Temporality, and a Holistic Methodology” and “Memory’s Method: Time, Space, and Remembrance in Caribbean Narratives.” Her interdisciplinary specializations span Haitian Historiography, Francophone Caribbean identity politics, Caribbean Digital Humanities, Community-engaged learning, Documentary Film, Decolonization and Postcolonial Theory, and African Diaspora Women’s Lives.
