Bio

Franzeska Sampson-Bacchus is the Director of Field Education and a doctoral lecturer in the Social Work Department. She has teaching experience from her roles at Medgar Evers College and in sociology at Grand Canyon University. Dr. Sampson-Bacchus’s research focuses on how social workers and case managers cope with internal and external support systems to mitigate workplace stress. Her professional experience includes working with youth in foster care and with homeless populations. As the Director of Field Education, she recognizes that fieldwork is essential to the Social Work Department and ensures that BSSW interns are placed in environments that promote their professional growth. These placements allow students to connect the theoretical concepts taught in the classroom with practical applications in community-based agencies. Her educational philosophy centers on four key principles:

  1. Incorporating practical and theoretical elements to enhance learning,
  2. Utilizing visual and audio resources for diverse learning methodologies,
  3. Providing opportunities for students to express their challenges, and
  4. Offering support and wellness check-ins.
