Dr. Oluwaseun Salako – Assistant Professor

Dr. Salako is an accomplished Assistant Professor in the Chemistry and Environmental Science department at Medgar Evers College-CUNY. With a passion for Gas hydrates, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, and Electrochemistry, Dr. Salako has dedicated his career to research, teaching, and public service. Dr. Salako earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the City College of New York in 2013. His doctoral research focused on the Adsorption of surfactants on clathrate hydrate. Before this, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from City College of New York in 2009.

Dr. Salako’s research interests include Surfactant adsorption, Zeta potential of colloidal suspension, Environmental monitoring and assessment, and Electrochemistry. He has received grants as a Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator from sources like the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Funds (ACS-PRF), CUNY Interdisciplinary Climate Crisis Research Grant, and currently the Department of Energy (DOE) as one of the three PUI Principal Investigators on a DOE Energy Frontier Research Centers. As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Salako is dedicated to providing high-quality education to their students. He teaches courses such as General Chemistry, Air and Water Pollution, Waste Management, Pollution Control and Prevention, and Ground Water, where they engage students with innovative teaching methods and encourage critical thinking.

Dr. Salako is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI). He has served on committees and actively participates in conferences and workshops in his field.

Dr. Salako served as the member and president of the Community Education Council of District 22 in Brooklyn from June 2021 to June 2023. As the president of CEC D22, he strongly advocated for the parents of children in D22, the largest education district in Brooklyn, on issues like class size reduction and increased school safety. Dr. Salako, along with other members of the council, helped schools in D22 get tens of thousands of dollars from local politicians for significant school building repairs and upgrades.

In his free time, Dr. Salako watches Premier League soccer as a lifelong Manchester United fan.
