National and Local Roles Announced for Two Medgar Evers Senior College Leaders

Two senior Medgar Evers College leaders have been appointed to influential positions in higher education and civic leadership, underscoring the institution’s impact and reputation beyond campus.

On November 25, 2025, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) announced the election of President Dr. Patricia Ramsey to serve as a Commissioner. MSCHE, an accrediting organization which operates in 46 states, two territories, the District of Columbia, and 100 countries, according to the MSCHE website, plays a critical role in ensuring educational quality and institutional excellence. Dr. Ramsey’s term as Commissioner will begin January 1, 2026, and continues through December 31, 2030.

That same day, Dr. Evelyn Castro, Senior Advisor to the President for Community Engagement and Dean of the School for Professional and Community Development (SPCD), was named to NYC Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani’s Transition Team. Dr. Castro will serve on the Committee on Youth and Education, bringing her expertise in community partnerships and student success to help shape the incoming administration’s educational priorities.

These concurrent appointments reflect Medgar Evers College’s commitment to educational excellence and community engagement at both the national and local levels.
