MEC Hosts CUNY 2x Boot Camp

Medgar Evers College just wrapped up its first winter boot camp under the City University of New York (CUNY) 2X Tech initiative. The boot camp, held during the winter session, included 39 Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Computer Science (CS) students who learned Google’s Applied CS and tech interview skills.

MEC is one of eight CUNY schools participating in the CUNY 2X Tech initiative. As a part of the initiative, the College will receive $1.4 million over the next three years, which will be used to double the number of career-qualified tech graduates. Dr. David Ahn, the chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems, is the Principal Investigator and MEC point of contact for the grant.

“What is unique about our program is that it provides extended support for our students to find internships and careers available in tech companies like Spotify, Google, Thrillist, Cablevision, Soundcloud, Accenture, JPMC, Viacom, Informalities, IBM, and NBC among others,” Ahn added, “They will continuously be supported by dedicated tech academic advisors, success coaches, and tutors to excel in the CIS and CS programs.”

Ahn said another Bootcamp is scheduled for the summer.
