Dr. Zulema Blair Honored in City and State New York’s Above and Beyond Awards 2022

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Zulema Blair, chair of the College’s public administration department, has been recognized in City and State NY’s Above and Beyond awards.

City and State’s annual Above and Beyond awards highlight remarkable women, including advocates, entrepreneurs, and other outstanding individuals whose accomplishments deserve recognition. Dr. Blair said it is a great honor to have her advocacy and service recognized.

“To be called someone who goes above and beyond means that I would do whatever it takes to ensure that students at all educational levels, especially in higher education, are afforded the opportunity of a quality education,” said Blair.

Dr. Blair has served in various roles within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. She has spent her career as a faculty member who seeks to level the playing field for her students. As chair of the public administration department, she spearheaded an overhaul of her department’s curriculum to fill learning gaps and helped rework the admission requirements for her department. Blair said this work is essential to her.

“I feel that it is my duty to ensure that students at every level have what they need to succeed, and if they do not and I become aware, I refuse to ignore it, “ Blair added, “Sometimes the system doesn’t give our students that exceptional service so wherever I see these gaps, I advocate or provide ways to fill these gaps.”

Dr. Blair will be honored at the Above and Beyond Annual Gala on March 24, 2022.
