Marxe School EdD–Higher Education Administration Students Partner with Medgar Evers College Transition Academy to Support the Local Community

The inaugural cohort of the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs’ Executive Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration (EdD-HEA) program recently partnered with the Transition Academy at Medgar Evers College for a community pop-up pantry event. Led by Dr. Waleek Boone, Director of the Transition Academy, volunteers distributed fresh produce, pantry staples, and second-hand clothing to local residents. Dr. Boone also guided students on a tour of the academy’s facilities, highlighting their mission to address food insecurity, housing instability, and fundamental barriers to student academic success.

Embedded directly into a dynamic three-day orientation, this cross-campus CUNY collaboration aligns with the EdD-HEA program’s mission to develop equity-driven practitioner-scholars who tackle complex challenges in post-secondary education. The 54-credit online program marks several milestones: it is the first doctoral degree offered by the Marxe School, Baruch College’s first doctoral degree in education, and CUNY’s first doctoral program in higher education administration. Following this successful partnership, the program plans to make the Transition Academy service project an annual orientation event.
