Black College Expo Returns To Medgar Evers College
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, the National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) will be bringing the 12th Annual Black College Expo to Medgar Evers College from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. High school juniors, senior, transfer, and adult students are invited to this event that not only provides the opportunity for attendees to engage in one-on-one interactions with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), but have the opportunity to be eligible for millions in available scholarships. According to NCRF Found/CEO, Dr. Theresa Price, the Black College Expo is far more than being a mere college recruitment fair.
“It’s an infotainment fair,” she said. “The Black College Expo is an experience. It’s empowering others that they can do and be anything regardless of what the world says, which the people against you or the haters may say. Black College Expo is an experience that will give you resources, information and are actually tangible that you can walk out with and put to use right away. It brings in colleges from all over the globe, Historic Black Colleges and Universities, minority institutions that are looking for students, adult learners and people that want to transfer to college. And they’re also looking for people that want to elevate their lives and give them a space where they can grow, unite, network, and become empowered to become their best selves.”
Admission is free thanks to New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker and Medgar Evers President Patricia Ramsey. Student attendees have a shot at being accepted to schools on the spot which can include having college application fees waived and receiving scholarships on site. High school juniors and seniors should bring their transcripts and ACT/SAT test scores to increase their chances of securing on-site admission to one of the institutions in attendance. In addition, attendees will be able to partake in a number of seminars including How to Find Money for College, Booming Careers, 411 for the Student-Athlete, ROTC Pathway to Success-Scholarships, Leadership and Generational Wealth, The Power of Your Voice-The Steps to Becoming Change in Your Community, Why Attend an HBCU, and more.
Celebrity guest who will be in attendance include actor London Brown (Ballers, Raising Kanan) and rapper Yo Yo, who will be hosting a “Dance Off” for cash during the After Show. Last year’s event saw 6,700 people in attendance with well over 7,000 attendees expected this year. The Expo is presented by Toyota, ROC NATION, T-Mobile, US Army, America’s Navy, Active Minds, CAS Actuary Society, and Foundation Clothing Co.
