AACEO Honors 2023 Modern Day Historians

On Friday, February 3, 2023, the AACEO (African American Clergy and Elected Officials) paid tribute to an array of 2023 Modern Day Historians at a breakfast ceremony held at Medgar Evers College. This event reflects the AACEO’s ongoing commitment to have clergy and community work together.

Founded in 1989, the AACEO’s mission is for clergy and elected officials to serve, strengthen and empower the parishioners and constituents of Brooklyn, through advocacy and participation in areas where social and economic injustice is determined to exist.

Today, the AACEO is the only organization in the state of New York where pastors, priests, ministers, elected officials and community stakeholders meet monthly to exchange information on community issues on all levels of government. The nation and government are in desperate need of salt and light, which on the church, her pastors and her people can provide. By understanding and creatively using the lawful means at our disposal can the community make a difference.

AACEO President, Reverend Dr. Robert Waterman, called the breakfast to order followed by welcoming remarks provided by Medgar Evers College President, Dr. Patricia Ramsey. Befitting the importance of the day’s festivities were the number of dignitaries in attendance that included U.S. Congressman and current House of Representatives Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, New York State Senator Zellnor Myrie, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, and New York City Chancellor David Banks, who was also one of he day’s honorees.
