Our programs are funded through the Black Male Initiative, the Mayor’s Office, and the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The ALC has a longstanding record of helping adults pass the GED exam, build confidence, and support their families and communities.

Mission
The Adult Literacy Center is dedicated to empowering adults through education. We help learners:
- Improve reading, writing, and math skills
- Build English proficiency
- Transition to college and workforce training
- Support their families development
- Strengthen long-term economic and personal stability
Programs
We Offer
We offer a wide range of academic and socio-emotional workshops, including:
- Test-taking strategies
- Health literacy
- Note-taking skills
- Trauma and stress management
- Identifying Resources Workshop
- Mental Health Workshop
- College Knowledge
- Career exploration
Our
Impact
Each year, the Adult Literacy Center:
- Serves more than 300 adult learners
- Supports three to four instructional cycles
- Maintains strong GED pass rates
- Helps students transition to college
- Connects learners to critical community resources
Program
Eligibility
To enroll in the Adult Literacy Center at Medgar Evers College, participants must meet the following requirements:
Students must be:
- 18 years of age or older
- Have a current photo ID
- Complete Intake & Assessment Process
- Committed to program requirements and attendance expectations
