Tutorial program

The Math Department runs a tutorial program. If you need help with any of your math classes, this is the place to be … and it won’t cost you a dime! Tutors are available Monday through Saturday.

MEC Mathematical Society

Also known as the Math Club, this student club aims to “provide a social mathematical network in which we encourage each other through shared experiences [and] to foster the learning of mathematics throughout all aspects of life.” The Math Club usually meets on Wednesday, during club hour.

Academic Adviser

If you are a math major at MEC, then you have a faculty adviser in the math department. You should meet with your adviser at least once per semester. If you are not sure who he or she is, contact Norma Brown.

Undergraduate Research

Ask your academic adviser about undergraduate research. Very popular are the paid research assistantships offered by the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-AMP), but there are many other opportunities out there.

Fellowships for math majors

Every academic year, the math department awards two $5,000 fellowships. If you are a full time math major with a GPA of at least 3.2, contact Norma Brown or your academic adviser to find out how to apply.
