About the Department of Psychology

The Psychology laboratory offers students opportunities to conduct research (Independent Study, Research Practicum, and Senior Thesis options). The clinical practicum affords students the opportunity to undertake an internship in some mental health area in the community. Each year awards are given for academic excellence and community or college service.

History

The Psychology department, which was established in 2003, offers a cohesive program that follows the guidelines of the American Association of Psychology (APA). This program prepares Psychology majors for employment or graduate study in a variety of psychology specializations including developmental, social, counseling, forensic, and clinical psychology. One unique feature of this program is that it requires students to take courses in the social sciences including Anthropology, Social Science, History, Sociology, Political Science and Economics, in addition to their psychology coursework. This supports our emphasis on scholarship in social justice, a commitment to self-discovery and lifelong social activism.
