About the Department
Early Childhood and Elementary Multicultural Education
Early Childhood and Elementary Multicultural Education promotes the uniqueness of the child and their culture as a positive characteristic that enables them to accept the unique cultures of others. Home languages and culture are integral to a child’s identity, affecting their cognitive, linguistic, and social-emotional development. Placing these differences and experiences at the center of the learning process in Early Childhood and Elementary Multicultural Education allows pedagogy to occur in the context of what is familiar to students and that addresses multiple ways of thinking.
