Welcome to Online and Distance Education at MEC

Medgar Evers College (MEC) is committed to delivering high-quality online and distance education that is rigorous, engaging, and accessible to all learners. Our approach is grounded in faculty leadership, academic governance, and alignment with system-wide resources from the City University of New York (CUNY), as well as nationally recognized standards for online teaching and learning. These efforts ensure consistency, quality, and meaningful student learning experiences across all instructional modalities.

Course Design and Academic Oversight.

All online and distance education courses at MEC are developed and approved through established faculty governance processes, including departmental and school-level curriculum review.

Courses are designed to ensure:

  • Alignment between Course, Program, and Institutional Learning Outcomes
  • Equivalent rigor and expectations as face-to-face courses
  • Clear structure, measurable outcomes, and effective instructional strategies

Faculty maintain primary responsibility for course design, ensuring academic integrity and disciplinary excellence.

Quality Matters (QM) and Course Quality Standards

MEC utilizes the Quality Matters (QM) framework to guide the design and continuous improvement of online courses.QM standards ensure that courses are:

  • Clearly organized and easy to navigate
  • Fully aligned across objectives, activities, and assessments
  • Designed to promote active learning and engagement
  • Accessible and inclusive for all students
