Vermita (Vee) Adolphus
Candidate for Recording Secretary
Major: Computer Information System
My name is Vermita Adolphus and I am running for the position of Recording Secretary of Student Government Association at Medgar Evers College. My primary reason for running is to be a voice for students who may not always feel seen or heard, and to ensure that student needs—academic, emotional, and social—are consistently addressed and prioritized. I want to contribute to a campus culture where every student knows they matter and are supported.
As a current student leader and active participant in campus life, I’ve had the opportunity to work in roles that prepare me for this next level of responsibility. I serve as the Recording Secretary for the Student Government Association, where I’ve had the chance to sharpen my organizational, communication, and time-management skills. In this position, I’ve recorded and distributed meeting minutes, followed up on key action items, and maintained documentation that supports transparency and collaboration among our student leadership team. Beyond my SGA responsibilities, I also serve as Head of Environmental Beauty Justice for Columbia University’s Center for Children’s Environmental Health, where I facilitate workshops and presentations on natural hair care products and environmental health awareness. This role has allowed me to educate others and empower them through knowledge, creativity, and community-centered dialogue. My vision is to amplify student voices in every area that affects our success—from advocating for more academic support programs and better communication about campus resources, to creating spaces for mental health and wellness conversations, cultural events, and career development opportunities.
I also want to focus on improving how we use technology and communication tools to reach students more effectively. With my background in computer information systems, email marketing, and analytics, I can help strengthen our digital presence and create more accessible ways for students to stay informed, engaged, and involved. I want students to feel empowered to participate in campus decisions and feel confident that their concerns are being addressed in real-time.
Ultimately, I am running for office in the SGA because I believe in Medgar Evers College’s potential and the brilliance of its students. I am ready to serve, to lead with integrity, and to collaborate with my peers to create positive, lasting change.

Aisha Dyer
Candidate for Day Vice President
Major: Biology Pre-Med
I am writing to formally declare my candidacy for the position of Day Vice President of the Student Government Association at Medgar Evers College. My decision to run comes from a real desire to make sure that the voices of my peers are not only heard but actually reflected in the decisions made on campus. I have seen how easy it is for student concerns to get brushed aside, and I want to change that. This role is not about recognition for me, it’s about representation. I want to be a dependable, visible, and action-oriented representative who works to close the gap between students and leadership. Whether it is pushing for better communication, stronger campus culture, or more academic opportunities, I believe that now is the time for us to create the student experience we all deserve.
Being a part of the last administration, I bring leadership experience that’s grounded in service, consistency, and collaboration. As a current senate member of the University Student Senate, CUNY (USS) we are currently advocating for all students to have free metro cards. I am also a part of a student-led academic support group that helped classmates prepare for finals and navigate resources on campus. This position has also turned into my appointment as a Biology and Chemistry tutor in the ACESS Center. These experiences taught me how to be accountable, how to manage time under pressure, and how-to bring people together toward a shared goal. I have also learned that leadership is not always about being in front, it is about knowing when to listen, how to adapt, and how to help others rise. I plan to use this experience to strengthen the SGA Executive Board in my role as Day Vice President. I intend to have a positive impact not only on social engagement but also academically and professionally, by creating new channels for peer mentorship, study support, and student-led initiatives that reflect what we truly need. In my previous role as the president of a student organization, I worked closely with faculty and administration to address concerns ranging from campus safety to enhancing student resources.
If elected, my goal is to create long-lasting impact that does not fade once the semester ends. I will advocate for better student feedback systems, so every concern and idea can be captured and addressed regularly. I want to collaborate with the entire SGA and campus organizations to create more meaningful events and opportunities that reflect our campus culture. I also hope to work closely with students of the respective classes (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior) towards a more unified and student-centered approach of supporting our peers, because thriving in college should not mean struggling in silence. As Day Vice President I will not just show up when it’s convenient, I will stay present and active, stay committed, and work every day to make sure students feels seen, supported, and stronger than ever.
Thank you for your support of my candidacy and your vote for me as your next SGA Day Vice President.
Thierno Diallo
Candidate for Sophomore Class Representative
Major: Biology
My name is Thierno Diallo, I am running for the position of Sophomore Class Representative within the Student Government Association (SGA) at MEC.
My decision to run for Sophomore Class Representative stems from a profound commitment to service and a passion for improving the college experience for all students. As an MEC student who has benefited from inclusive campus programs, I have directly observed the transformative power of supportive policies and animated extracurricular opportunities. However, I have also observed gaps in communication between the student body and administration, especially around mental health resources, campus safety initiatives, and academic support services. By serving in this role, I want to connect these gaps, promote student voices, and collaborate with faculty and staff to create a vibrant environment where all students feel heard, supported, and empowered.
During this semester, I participated in two summits: DevCon 2025, hosted by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the Strada Leadership Summit by Strada Education Foundation. I am also a member of the MESA Club, serving as Secretary. Over the past years, I have actively pursued leadership opportunities that have honed my organizational, communication, and advocacy skills. In my previous role as President of the Student Government Association before I emigrated to the US, I coordinated weekly study sessions, organized meetings, and managed budgets for various projects. I led a campus-wide blood drive that collected over two hundred units of blood for local hospitals. These initiatives required strategic planning, budgeting, and team management, all of which prepared me to manage the responsibilities of an SGA officer.
Thank you for your support of my candidacy and your vote for me as Sophomore Class Representative. I look forward to the chance to contribute my energy, ideas, and leadership to the SGA as your Sophomore Class Representative and to filling the needs and aspirations of every MEC student.
Maritza Argueta
Candidate for SGA President
Major: Liberal Arts
My name is Maritza Argueta, and I proudly represent Queens with a Bahamian, Cherokee, and Guatemalan background. I am currently an upper sophomore majoring in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Behavioral and Social Sciences, working towards my associate degree. Soon, I will be pursuing my baccalaureate degree in Social Work.
I am running for SGA President because I want to make a meaningful impact, not just in the classroom or through extracurricular activities, but by igniting the spirit of our student body. My leadership experience is deeply rooted in this campus, particularly through the Athletic Department. As Vice President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, I have organized halftime shootout games during men’s and women’s basketball games, awarding winners with Medgar Evers gear and even a $100 H&M gift card for a special Senior Night event. Additionally, I’ve helped boost school spirit by giving out free Medgar Evers t-shirts and running a snack concession stand to raise funds for our athletes. These initiatives have contributed to growing game audiences and fostering a stronger sense of community.
Beyond athletics, I also serve as Chief of Social Media for my internship with the Office of Communications, where I am helping to lead the launch of TikTok with an SNL-style skit showcasing the resources and hidden gems on campus. This project highlights Medgar Evers College as a proud Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) while also promoting important campus information and wellness initiatives.
My leadership extends beyond the school setting. In January, I organized a networking event that brought together artists, content creators, fashion and jewelry designers, live performers, models, and photographers. This event wasn’t just about showcasing talent, it was a safe space for learning and collaboration. Panelists shared their experiences, offering insights on navigating their industries. With a DJ, a photo booth, and support for my family’s newly opened food café, the event fostered creativity and connection.
As SGA President, my vision is clear:
- Educational Social Justice Events – To highlight key social justice issues and initiatives while honoring the legacy of Medgar Wiley Evers.
- Voter Engagement– Encouraging students to participate in legislation and elections, ensuring they have a voice in decisions that directly impact them.
- Reigniting School Spirit– Bringing energy back to both students and staff, reminding everyone what it truly means to be MEDGAR MADE.
Medgar Evers College is more than just an institution — it’s a home. With all the responsibilities we juggle, we must never forget the strength and pride in our community. Let’s work together to create lasting change.
Thank you.
Abdoulaye Diallo
Candidate for Sophomore Class President

As a first-year student, I’ve been driven to immerse myself in the life and culture of our campus community. From the very beginning of my college journey, I knew I wanted to be more than just a student in the classroom, I wanted to contribute, connect, and create change. I am running for office in the SGA to step further into that mission. I believe that leadership is not about holding a title, but about taking initiative, uplifting others, and being a voice for those who feel unheard. It’s about listening actively, building bridges, and making sure every student, regardless of background or identity, feels connected to this institution.
This year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the Public Relations Officer for the African Student Association, where I helped lead outreach efforts, organize events, and elevate our cultural presence on campus. I’ve also been an active contributor to the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), where I’ve gained valuable experience working alongside driven peers and learning how to navigate leadership through collaboration, professionalism, and purpose.
My leadership experience goes beyond my time at Medgar Evers. In high school, I held executive positions in multiple clubs, including serving as Treasurer for both the Economics Club and the Photography Club. These roles taught me financial discipline, organization, and how to lead with creativity and clarity. I’ve learned the importance of accountability, communication, and having a strong work ethic. All of which I bring with me into my current ambitions at MEC.
If elected, my goal is to foster a stronger, more engaged campus culture. I want to work alongside students, faculty, and administration to boost student involvement, enhance campus life, and create opportunities for students to find belonging. I believe there’s so much untapped potential in our student body, and I want to help bring it to life through events, forums, and new initiatives that reflect the diversity and drive of MEC. I also aim to advocate for student concerns, whether academic, social, or financial and ensure that every student feels their voice matters.
Being in the SGA will also challenge me to grow personally and professionally. I am pursuing a career in high finance, with aspirations of entering investment banking and eventually pursuing an MBA. Being part of student government will not only sharpen my leadership and communication skills but also hold me to a higher standard of responsibility and service. I want to be a part of something bigger than myself, something that leaves a legacy of integrity, and growth.
Most importantly, I want to be a servant leader who uplifts my peers, creates real change, and helps shape a more thriving and inclusive environment at Medgar Evers College. I believe in the power of this institution, and I believe in the students who make it special. If given the opportunity, I will serve with energy, honesty, and heart.
Thank you for your support of my candidacy and vote for me as your Sophomore Class President.

My reason for running is deeply personal and rooted in my own journey. As a student maintaining a 4.0 GPA, a Jeanette Rankin Scholarship recipient, and a finalist for both the Point Foundation and the Roothbert Fund—two scholarships that reflect my faith and my deep love for the LGBTQIA+ community—I know the power of perseverance, faith, and advocacy. I am committed to making sure every student at MEC knows that they belong here and that their voice matters.
At LaGuardia Community College, I served as the President of the Psychology Club for two years, reviving the organization from dormancy and turning it into a safe space for students interested in mental health, equity, and community empowerment. I organized events on mental health awareness, peer-led discussions, and built coalitions across student organizations and faculty. My leadership was rooted in inclusion, empathy, and action—values I carry with me in all spaces.
Outside of club leadership, I actively mentored fellow students, led volunteer efforts, and represented student concerns to college administration. I was known not just for my academic drive, but for my ability to connect others with support and bring people together. My work in substance use prevention, peer counseling, and community health initiatives gives me a strong foundation to advocate effectively for students’ holistic well-being.
As an SGA leader, I hope to foster an environment where students feel heard, supported, and inspired. My vision includes expanding access to mental health and wellness resources, ensuring transparency in administrative processes, and advocating for the unique needs of MEC students—especially our nontraditional, LGBTQIA+, and first-generation populations. I want to launch a student mentorship initiative, create open student forums, and strengthen partnerships with community-based organizations that reflect our values.
I believe in servant leadership—the idea that titles mean nothing without impact. I am ready to put in the work, to stand up for others, and to continue being the student who lifts as she climbs. I am committed to honoring the legacy of Medgar Evers by advocating for justice, equity, and community every single day.
Thank you for your support and Vote for me as Evening Vice President. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve and ready to lead with integrity and purpose.
Nehemie Deronvil
Candidate for Treasurer
Major: Biology
My name is Nehemie Deronvil and I am running for the position of Treasurer in the Student Government Association (SGA) at Medgar Evers College. As a dedicated and motivated student, I am eager to contribute to the financial stewardship and success of our campus community by serving in this vital role.
**Reason for Running for Office in the SGA**
My decision to run for the office of Treasurer is driven by my desire to ensure that the financial resources of the SGA are managed effectively and transparently to benefit all students at Medgar Evers College. The role of Treasurer is crucial in maintaining the financial health of the organization, enabling it to support initiatives that enhance the student experience. By taking on this role, I hope to ensure that funds are allocated wisely, promote financial transparency, and support programs that address the diverse needs of our student body.
Although I do not have prior leadership experience, I am confident in my ability to excel in this position due to my strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn. I am committed to dedicating my time and energy to fulfilling the responsibilities of the Treasurer with diligence and professionalism.
**What Impact Do You Hope to Have to Positively Affect Change for MEC Students**
If elected as Treasurer, my primary goal is to ensure that the financial operations of the SGA are conducted with integrity and transparency. I aim to implement efficient budgeting practices, maintain accurate financial records, and provide clear reports to the student body about how funds are being utilized. This will allow students to stay informed about the financial decisions being made on their behalf and encourage greater trust and engagement with the SGA.
In addition to managing the financial aspects of the SGA, I hope to contribute to initiatives that address key areas such as academic support, mental health resources, and campus inclusivity. I understand that many students face challenges balancing their academic, personal, and professional lives, and I want to advocate for programs and services that provide them with the tools they need to succeed. For example, I would support efforts to allocate funds towards expanding tutoring services, promoting awareness of counseling resources, and creating spaces where students can connect and share their experiences.
Inclusivity is another area where I hope to make a positive impact. Medgar Evers College is home to a diverse student body, and I believe that celebrating this diversity is essential to building a strong and united campus community. As Treasurer, I would work closely with other members of the SGA to ensure that financial resources are distributed equitably and support events and initiatives that promote cultural understanding, equity, and respect among students.
Finally, I want to strengthen the relationship between students and administration by ensuring that financial decisions are made collaboratively and reflect the priorities of the student body. By prioritizing open communication and collaboration, we can build trust and create policies that truly reflect the needs and desires of the student body.
**Conclusion**
While I may not have prior leadership experience, I bring a fresh perspective, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for serving the Medgar Evers College community. I am excited about the opportunity to grow as a leader while contributing to the success of the SGA and the students it represents. If given the chance to serve as Treasurer, I will approach the role with dedication, integrity, and a commitment to making a lasting difference.
Thank you for your support of my candidacy and your vote for me as SGA Treasurer. I look forward to working alongside my fellow students and administrators to create a campus environment that is supportive, inclusive, and empowering.
