Yahya Mused

Yahya Mused, a Class of 2017 Computer Science major, grew up in Yemen. He was a clerk at “The College Deli” and applied to Medgar Evers — located across the street — only after a chance conversation with an admissions advisor. At the time, he did even know that financial aid existed. His journey from the College Deli to the College has taken him to his current position as a software engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, D.C.

Mused came to New York in 2010 enrolled in MEC in 2013, and earned two associate degrees. He stayed involved — reviving the College’s Muslim Student Association mentoring high school students interested in computer science, working in student government and volunteering as an auxiliary police officer.

In November 2016, Mused was one of two MEC students selected to attend the Bloomberg Diversity Summit., at Bloomberg L.P. Mused was also recognized at the 24th Vice Chancellor’s Excellence in Leadership Awards Ceremony for students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership through scholastic and service related activities.

“Medgar Evers means the light of my future,” said Mused. “It gave me an opportunity to be an agent of change, to make a difference in my life. Now, I spend my lunch break one block away from the White House. It is something I could never imagine.”
