Dr. Cesar Valverde – Associate Professor

Dr. Valverde works in the areas of Number Theory, Automorphic Forms and Representation Theory. He has studied problems of distinction of representations of the General Linear group with respect to orthogonal subgroups in the local p-adic setting, as well as problems of global distinction using geometric Relative Trace Formulas on the Symplectic, General Linear, and Metaplectic groups. In various projects with students, he has explored new cases of a conjecture relating Shintani lift to an equality of Bessel functions over finite fields, as well as a generalization of the Shitani lift to the case of the field of one element. Some of his current research, in collaboration with three CUNY students, generalizes work of Ramanujan extending Faulhaber’s formula and provides new identities on products of Bernoulli numbers and binomial coefficients.
