MEC Public Administration Professor Wallace Ford was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA). SONYMA offers low-interest mortgage loans and programs to help qualified buyers purchase a home.

Ford was nominated by Temporary President of the New York Senate, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and appointed by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. As a member of the board, he will be instrumental in the agency’s oversight, helping to establish best practices and procedures.

“I am honored to represent Medgar Evers College and the Department of Public Administration as a member of the Board of Directors of the State of New York Mortgage Agency,” said Ford. “I expect to be an advocate for greater and enhanced focus on the needs of Black and Latino communities throughout Empire State.”

Ford’s first board meeting is on October 13.
