Medgar Evers College Launches META to Support Student Mental Health

Medgar Evers College – CUNY, a public college in New York City, is providing access to online counselors for all students through META Teletherapy, an Uber-like platform for mental wellness.

College students are struggling with a variety of mental health issues in addition to anxiety and depression including academic pressure, relationship issues, and financial stress. Unfortunately, accessing available mental health providers has become more difficult as demand for counseling increases.

Medgar Evers students can now download the free META mobile app and connect to a marketplace of licensed counselors, therapists, and clinical social workers for private counseling sessions via chat, video, or voice calls. Medgar Evers College will cover the counseling costs for a limited number of sessions on a first-come, first served basis.

META eliminates unnecessary processing forms, questionnaires, and wait times by partnering with licensed counselors who are seeking new clients. Providers respond within hours, accept most insurance plans, and offer sliding scale pricing. META providers are highly rated; 98% receive a 5/5 rating from users following their sessions.

Medgar Evers students on META can choose their own counselor and filter providers by characteristics most important to them, including ethnicity, language, gender, therapy style and more. Once a student sends a chat message to their chosen provider, they receive a reply in just hours to schedule a session at a time that works for them, including evenings and weekends.

With META, all Medgar Evers College students have an easy way to receive the support they need to succeed in college and in their lives. META also includes self-service content pushed out weekly through the app to support students throughout the year.
