Medgar Evers College Hosts Annual Diabetes Awareness Week

As the holidays approach, The Health Services (Althea Willie), The Transition Academy (Dr. Waleek Boone), and The Freshman Year Program (Dr. Lystra Huggins) at Medgar Evers College hosted the 2nd Annual Diabetes Awareness Week. This event created spaces for conversations, demonstrations of healthy food options, and the showcasing of everyday exercises to eliminate or manage the symptoms of diabetes. The awareness week culminated with a walk around the Crown Heights area to generate awareness of this deadly disease. The staff, faculty, and students at the college contributed meaningful words on patches of loved ones who have diabetes and those who have died from complications of diabetes. This quilt will be fashioned by Ms. Laura P. James to display at next year’s Diabetes Awareness Week as a reminder to be aware of one’s sugar intake.
