Dean’s Message

Sandie Han

Medgar Evers College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shu-Ping Sandie Han as the Dean of the School of Science & Allied Health. Dr. Han will begin on January 8, 2024. 

As a Professor of Mathematics at New York City College of Technology, Assistant Dean for Academic Technology & Pedagogy at CUNY Central Office, and the CUNY Office of Undergraduate Studies, and Academic Programs & Policy Leadership Fellow, Dr. Han will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to the School of Science and Allied Health. 

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Han has led numerous initiatives, including the CUNY New Lecturer Initiative, a comprehensive onboarding and professional development program for 250 new CUNY lecturers. She has also served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics at City Tech, playing a pivotal role in curriculum restructuring, faculty mentorship, and departmental modernization. 

Dr. Han’s impact on computer science education is noteworthy, having served as the Computer Science A.S. Degree Program Coordinator at City Tech, where she significantly increased enrollment and degree conferral. Her involvement in grant-work, including projects funded by the US Department of Education and the National Science Foundation, underscores her commitment to advancing STEM education and supporting underrepresented minority students. 

A recipient of the CUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mathematics Instruction, Dr. Han holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from The Graduate Center, CUNY, and has demonstrated a dedication to professional development through her participation in various leadership programs and conferences. 

Dr. Han received her B.A. in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College, her M.A. in Mathematics from Queens College/CUNY, and her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Graduate Center/CUNY.
