The Office of Admissions: FAQ
To apply to Medgar Evers College, applicants must complete the Online Application. Applicants will be asked to register for a CUNY Portal account before they can proceed with filling out the online application. At the end of the application an address will be provided to where all supporting documents must be sent.
First year applicants (First Time Freshmen) will need to submit an official high school transcript along with high school diploma, or if applicant received a General State Equivalency Diploma (GED), or the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) with the satisfactory score requirement. Transfer student applicants must submit all official transcripts from any College previously attended. If transfer applicant has less than 24 credits, proof of high school graduation or its equivalent must also be submitted.
If you currently hold a U.S. high school diploma, have received a state General Equivalency Diploma or the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) with satisfactory scores, or currently attend, or previously attended an accredited college, it is possible for you to apply as a Direct admit applicant to Medgar Evers College. Students seeking admission to Medgar Evers College can initiate the on-the-spot admission process. Students are responsible for having their academic records translated to English by an official translation agency before applying.
International students should submit the application processing fee of $65 payable to UAPC, an official high school transcript (if the transcript is not in English, we will need a translation of your transcript word for word), copies of any mark sheets or exam certificates and TOEFL score if the native language is not English.
If the courses you took are equivalent to the courses offered at Medgar Evers College, then you will receive credit for them. You must submit an official transcript from the college(s) that you attended in order to receive credit.
Online applications typically take 4-6 weeks to be processed, while direct admission applications typically take 3-4 weeks to be processed.
The Admissions Office is unable to provide application fee waivers. CUNY distributes a limited number of waivers to NYC Public High Schools. If you are applying as a freshman, please speak with your college advisor about your options.

Domestic freshman and Transfer Applicants: Log-in to the CUNY Portal by following these steps:
- Visit the CUNY Portal Log-in webpage and enter your CUNY Portal username and password and click "Log-in."
- On the Citizen CUNY main page, select "Apply Online" located in the center of the page. If you are currently attending CUNY, you must first select "ADMISSIONS/FINANCIAL AID" in the top navigation menu.
- Select "Admission," then "Application Status" from the left sidebar.
- Students Educated Outside the U.S.: Email your inquiry to our Help Desk for Students at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include your Application Control Number (10-digit number beginning with a "W" that can be found in your Application Summary Package) in the body of the email.
Medgar Evers College looks at your overall academic performance, it generally considers applicants with a 65 average or higher for our associate degree programs.
SAT test scores are required only if you are applying to one of our bachelor's degree programs.
To be eligible for transfer admission, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 if transferring from a CUNY school and 2.2 if transferring from a non-CUNY school for all previous college work.
Unfortunately, you cannot apply as a freshman. CUNY policy requires that all students that have attended college no matter how long ago must apply as a transfer student and submit transcripts from all educational institutions previously attended.
Students that attended college and dropped their classes, before the first day, can apply as a freshman with proof from the college that they dropped, without receiving a withdraw “W” grade. If the student withdrew and received withdrawal “W” grades you are considered a transfer student and must apply as such.
Direct admissions require all applying students to be high school graduates. If your classes are complete and you have met ALL requirements for graduation, we will accept a sealed letter with an official transcript stating such from your high school. Final proof of graduation must be submitted after the diploma has been issued. A deadline is issued to provide students with sufficient time to submit their High School diploma after graduation. Failure to submit the diploma at the stated date will result in your classes being withdrawn from the college.
