Mental health and emotional services are available to all MEC students. Transition Academy
The Transition Academy supports student experiencing homelessness or issues in housing or food insecurity. Our staff aid students in navigating the complex process of the homeless system and work on streamlining finding adequate housing. Our services include: Food Vouchers, navigating the shelter system, transportation, agency referrals for housing and eviction prevention, counseling referrals, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) applications, clothing and personal hygiene items, and job placement).

HEAT Program
Health & Education Alternatives for Teens (HEAT) was founded in 1992 to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it impacted youth in Brooklyn. Beginning as a multidisciplinary clinic providing medical care, mental health services, and case management for HIV+ youth, its mission has expanded to include outreach, community engagement, and community-based HIV/STD testing for youth reluctant to seek screening in formal medical settings. HEAT serves the LGBTQ+ community and all communities of color.
