Dr. Roberto A. Herrera is an anthropological archaeologist and adjunct assistant professor in the CUNY system. Born in uptown Manhattan (103 and Manhattan Ave) to parents from Costa Rica, Roberto was raised in Brooklyn in a mixed Puerto Rican and Costa Rican household. His research focuses on pre-contact Southern Central American archaeology working with modern communities to formulate sustainable heritage strategies that empower local communities in the area. Dr. Herrera is also interested in the multi-racial nature of Latino admixture or mestizaje and how this impacts identity.
