Extracurricular Activities
  • Traditional strategies to create community through in-person group programming will be limited. Small gatherings of students will be limited to spaces that can accommodate appropriate social distancing and require wearing masks.
  • A cross-departmental working group including staff and student leaders has developed virtual student life programs and services.
  • Foodservice facilities, once open, will provide all food in single-serve, to-go containers; will use only single-use, prepackaged utensils, and condiments; and will deploy touchless payment systems.
  • Campus libraries, study rooms, computing labs, and student service areas will operate consistently with relevant state guidelines. These venues are designed to maintain the physical distancing of patrons and the adherence to mask-wearing requirements.
  • In-person student group meetings permissible under state guidelines will be scheduled centrally to support contact tracing.
Events

The College has not generally provided campus space for external events subject to an exception/review process for mission-critical events that can meet physical distancing and other applicable safety standards specified by federal, state, and local guidelines and CUNY's directives.

The campus did not host in-person events open to the public during the Fall 2021 semester. Gatherings and meetings of the student organization will occur only with appropriate social distancing at least six feet or three feet between people and will require participants to wear masks (unless outside and physical distances are maintained).

Standards and guidelines around indoor and outdoor events continue to evolve rapidly. Therefore, all requests for events should be directed through space reservation to Beverly Davis at spacereq@mec.cuny.edu.
Visitor Policy

CUNY's Visitor Policy is designed to restrict anyone who has not been fully vaccinated or has not received a recent negative COVID-19 test from entering a CUNY campus or office.

A visitor to the College is a person who is not a MEC student, faculty, or staff member. Visitors with no legitimate business purpose and other guests are not allowed on campus. Examples of visitors include, but are not limited to:
  • Vendors and other individuals coming to campus to perform activities related to a contract with or in support of the College;
  • Employees of related entities of MEC including without limitation Auxiliary Enterprise Corporations, Student-Faculty Association, and Child Care Center;
  • Unpaid college interns;
  • Community members and other individuals coming to the campus to use the College facilities such as pools and gyms or to attend activities on campus; and
  • Family members or friends of MEC students, faculty, or staff.
Department heads must carefully consider the need for in-person meetings and invite visitors with legitimate business purposes selectively. We will, however, allow small admission tours. Those who make in-person visits (e.g., deliveries, etc.) will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.

Rules for Visitors

Every visitor to Campus, whether accessing indoor or outdoor spaces, must provide proof that they (i) are fully vaccinated or (ii) have had a negative COVID-19 molecular (PCR) test performed by an accredited lab no more than 7 days prior to the visit. "Fully Vaccinated" means:
  • Two weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; or
  • Two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine; or
  • By the time specified in either the FDA licensure or World Health Organization approval, after the final administration of any other vaccines.
Visitors are also required to comply with all College policies and codes of conduct, as well as government and/or campus-specific rules and protocols, applicable to individuals on campus that are intended to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including by way of example:
  • any masking requirements; and
  • complying with any applicable federal, state, or local quarantine rules.
Before coming to campus, visitors are encouraged to visit our website to review the most current access rules and protocols.

Exception for Short Visits with No Close Contact

Visitors on campus for 30 minutes or less per visit do not have to comply with any COVID-19 vaccination or surveillance testing requirements applicable to CUNY staff unless the visitor expects to be less than six feet in distance from another person for a total of 15 minutes or more.
