SUMMARY:Arts Alive Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Medgar Evers College Hosts Arts Alive Extravaganza \nOne-time semester event that showcases arts talents of students \nBROOKLYN\, New York – The Department of Mass Communications\, Creative and Performing Arts at the Medgar Evers College\, City University of New York is hosting its annual Arts Alive event in Brooklyn on Thursday\, December 6\, 2018. \nArts Alive celebrates the growing urban arts scene in Brooklyn and captures the artistic expression of predominantly African\, African-American\, Caribbean arts and culture. \nThrough dance\, theatre\, and visual arts\, participating students demonstrate how engagement in the arts enriches lives and builds stronger\, more vibrant communities. \nArts Alive challenges visual and performing arts students to put forth their best and most original thinking in expanding audience participation and engagement as well as community development. \nAccording to the Chair\, Department of Mass Communications\, Creative and Performing Arts\, Dr. Clinton Crawford\, Arts Alive extravaganza exemplifies the artistic nature of Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn and fills the void of African-American and African diasporic arts performance in Brooklyn. The event starts at 7 p.m. to suit the schedule of most workers. \nHe expressed the hope that members of the Brooklyn community\, community leaders\, groups\, and corporate organizations would identify with the event that promises to be an evening of fun and relaxation for participants. \nThe event is expected to be attended by the faculty\, staff\, and students of Medgar Evers College\, political leaders\, civil servants\, women\, and civil society activists and groups in New York. \nFor more information regarding this event/press release\, please contact Dr. Uchenna Ekwo aekwo@mec.cuny.edu or 718-270-4805 (office) 917-803-5540 (Cell)

SUMMARY:#CUNYTUESDAY
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that of the 7\,000 students enrolled at Medgar Evers College\, 58% are recipients of Pell grants? Pell is a need-based grant awarded to low-income students attending college. Despite Pell\, TAP and other need-based financial aid assistance\, Medgar Evers College has an estimated 300 students that are reported homeless. \nMaking education a primary focus is a major challenge for students who are dealing with issues surrounding poverty. \nWhat are we doing about it? \nHelp MEC design a hunger-free community  \nfor our students! \nMedgar Evers College is introducing a Campus Food Pantry and an emergency assistance grant program to help fight hunger on our campus. This is a great chance to make a difference in the MEC community. Please join us in our efforts to help our students in need. \nThe Medgar Evers College Educational Foundation strives to raise at least $50\,000 this year to stock the pantry and provide food vouchers throughout the year. Every gift\, no matter the size\, makes a difference. Please consider encouraging your friends\, family and colleagues to join us to work towards ending hunger on the MEC campus this year. \nPlease give today! \nMake a Gift!
