SUMMARY:The Role and Importance of the Caribbean Court of Justice in Advancing the Caribbean Civilization
DESCRIPTION:In support of the launch of the Maxwell Haywood Scholarship and Development Fund\, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Diaspora Committee of New York\, Inc. will host a lecture series at Medgar Evers College presented by Justice Adrian Saunders\, president of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). \nMedgar Ever College alumnus Maxwell Haywood was the founding chairperson and leader of the SVG Diaspora Committee of New York\, Inc. Haywood was an active student leader and earned his undergraduate degree in Public Administration. He held a master’s degree in Human Resource Management and Social Policy from The New School. Haywood fought tirelessly for the advancement of the Vincentian diaspora and was a strong proponent for unity among Caribbean people. He passed away on November 29\, 2017. \nThe event will serve as the official launch of a Scholarship and Development Fund in Haywood’s name to carry on the development work to which he dedicated his life. The Maxwell Haywood Scholarship and Development Fund will preserve his legacy through: (1) the provision of scholarships to secondary school and college students in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and New York; and (2) the delivery of informational and educational lectures\, forums\, and workshops focused on the issues of diasporas\, migration\, and development. \nThe SVG Diaspora Committee of New York\, Inc. is a registered 501 (c)3 non-profit organization operating in New York City with a focus on community improvement and capacity building. Despite Pell\, TAP and other need-based financial aid assistance\, Medgar Evers College has an estimated 300 students that are reported homeless. \nMaking education a primary focus is a major challenge for students who are dealing with issues surrounding poverty. \nWhat are we doing about it? \nHelp MEC design a hunger-free community  \nfor our students! \nMedgar Evers College is introducing a Campus Food Pantry and an emergency assistance grant program to help fight hunger on our campus.
