SUMMARY:Medgar Evers College Annual Big Read
DESCRIPTION:In the spirit of our college namesake\, and our mission of community engagement paired with the tradition of The Great American Read\, the Department of English under the umbrella of the Black History Month Committee annually spearheads the “Medgar Evers Big Read”—a collaborative\, interdisciplinary endeavor. In spring 2023 we chose the PEN AWARD winner Hafizah Augustus Geter’s The Black Period: On Personhood\, Race and Origin. The Big Read selection is included on the English Department’s list of recommended reading for our composition courses and sparks a variety of assignments and conversations. This year our selection is the novel\, The Book of Harlan winner of American Book Award and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work by Bernice McFadden. \nVirtual Link: \nhttp://tinyurl.com/3r8urhy9
