She is the winner of two National Book Awards for Fiction for Sing\, Unburied\, Sing (2017) and Salvage the Bones (2011). Ward is also the author of the novel Where the Line Bleeds and the memoir Men We Reaped\, which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and won the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize and the Media for a Just Society Award. She is currently an associate professor of creative writing at Tulane University and lives in Mississippi.

Dr. Greene and Burroughs discuss the origins of Black Panther\, considered the first Black superhero inÂ American mainstream comics\, and the different representations of Black Panther from the 1960s to the present. \nAbout the Author \nTodd Steven Burroughs is a journalist\, historian\, and popular culture geek. He holds a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Marylandâ€™s Philip Merrill College of Journalism\, and is a lifelong student of the history of Black media. He is a coauthor with Herb Boyd of the book â€œCivil Rights: Yesterday and Today\,â€ and one of four primary authors of the book â€œCivil Rights Chronicle\,â€ both published Legacy Publishing/Publications International). He is the coeditor with Jared Ball of the book â€œA Lie of Reinvention: Correcting Manning Marableâ€™s Malcolm X\,â€ published by Black Classic Press. He is a contributor to several other books\, including â€œRace and Resistance: African-Americans in the Twenty-First Centuryâ€ (South End Press); â€œPutting The Movement Back into Civil Rights Teachingâ€ (Teaching for Change and PRRAC); â€œThe Fifties Chronicleâ€ (Legacy/Publishing/Publications International); and the â€œEthnic Media in Americaâ€ scholarly anthology series (Kendall/Hunt). He is writing a monograph on Gil Noble\, the host and producer of the long-running WABC-TV Black public affairs program â€œLike It Isâ€ and a journalistic biography of imprisoned journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal. \n  \n
