About the Guest
Felina Backer is the founder of Making the Impossible Possible, Inc. (MIPO) and the driving force behind the organization’s successes. MIPO is a 501c3 organization dedicated to promoting the quality of life of immigrant children and families that live in the New York metropolitan area. Backer has been engaged in community wellness for more than three decades. She is considered an influential stake in shifting the paradigm of genuine community service. Backer is a veteran educator with more than 22 years with the New York City Department of Education. During that time, she taught math for more than seven and served as an Assistant Principal for more than 15 years. Backer earned two master’s degrees from Brooklyn College in School Administration and Math Education. Under the former, she holds two licenses, School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) and School District Administration (SDA).
Additionally, she has completed post-graduate coursework toward her doctorate in Educational Leadership. She earned her undergraduate degree in Operations Management from Baruch College. Backer is passionate and dedicated to planting seeds in the lives of those she encounters and is committed to being fruitful where she is planted. She believes that “we the people” have a responsibility, and that commitment is to empower communities and be an inspiration to all we can help “breathe.” She is convinced that anyone can be an element of change if they can find their purpose in life; however, one must be cautious about which end of the spectrum of change they are committed. Backer thrives on providing every student the opportunity to understand their “why” in all that they do.
