Bio: Dr. Augustin Okereke, speaks four languages and received his doctorate from the University of Bielfeld, Germany. Former Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and Chair of the English department, he also led the very successful American Democracy Project at Medgar Evers College. Dr. Okereke received two grants to conduct African Oral Research from the University of Bielfeld. He published the well-received work “The Hip Hop Artist: Reinterpretation of an African Tradition.” Dr. Okereke has presented at numerous national and international conferences on African literary traditions. Currently he is the Principle Investigator for the 3 million dollar Predominately Black Institutions (PBI) Grant aimed at improving student persistence and graduation of Medgar Evers students. Under his leadership Medgar Evers College has its first ever CUNY approved Honors Program.
