I was born in Harlem, New York and raised in Brooklyn from six years of age. Influenced by my mother, a sharecropper’s daughter, I always loved school and became interested in the written word at an early age. My original dream was to be a high school English teacher. I got an opportunity to work and continue my studies within the CUNY system. After earning a Liberal Arts degree at City Tech and a B.A. in Mass Communications at Brooklyn College, I produced a video for a neighborhood minister at Medgar Evers College. There, I met Dr. Mary Umolu, the chair of the Department of Mass Communications, Creative and Performing Arts, and Speech. I promised that I would return to apply as an adjunct once I earned my M.S. in TV and Radio Management. I did, she hired me, and that chance meeting has now culminated into a wonderful career experience.
