Zhoe Emmanuel is a Smart Scholar student, graduating with an Associate of Science Degree in Biology. As a Smart Scholar, she is dually enrolled at Medgar Evers College and a partnered high school, Medgar Evers College Preparatory School. Zhoe will be graduating this year from the college with a GPA of 3.9 and from the high school, with a GPA of 102. Zhoe is a first-generation American, born to two St. Lucian parents and will be the second person in her family to graduate from college. Her parents moved to America with the sole goal of giving her a better life and because of that, she committed herself to never letting any opportunity go to waste. With a desire to leave no stone unturned and to have her foot in every door, she has become known by her peers and mentors as the “girl who has done everything.”

Throughout her academic career, Zhoe has earned many awards, including the prestigious AP Scholar with Distinction and College Board National Recognition Program Scholar awards. She has taken and passed 14 Advanced Placement classes and achieved her Capstone Diploma. Zhoe is a member of the National Honor Society Ujima Chapter as well as of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health Science Academy. She also served as both a high school and a college peer tutor for calculus and world history. Outside the classroom, Zhoe has consistently been an active member of her community. From 2022-23, she was a peer educator, social media manager and Young Urban Forester Intern with Trees New York, where she worked on research projects and presentations, conducted hands-on stewardship caring for street trees city-wide, and engaged in active outreach to the community at large. Zhoe also served as Discovery Guide Volunteer at Prospect Park Zoo, teaching visitors about ecology and conservation.

Currently, she is a member of the National Sorority of the Phi Delta Kappa Inc. (NSPDK Inc.) Theta Chapter, where she has aided the production and execution of various service events such as a community game night, sock and coat drive, and gift wrapping/donation event at a local church. She is also the third-place winner of the NSPDK Inc. Eastern Region Oratorical Contest. Zhoe is a GEOPATH mentee, working with professors at Medgar Evers College and Pennsylvania State University to conduct research on black carbon. She is a City Parks Foundation intern working to teach people about marine ecology in New York City. She is also a member of the Varsity Swimming and Varsity Volleyball teams at her high school, where she has won awards for her performance in both. In her free time, she enjoys going to the movies, playing volleyball, trying new foods, playing a variety of video games, and drawing. In the fall, Zhoe will be attending Boston University with all expenses covered, as one of less than 2,000 students to win the distinguished Questbridge Scholarship. The four-year scholarship will be covering tuition, room and board, travel expenses, and books, amounting to more than $200,000. She will be majoring in Communications and Marine Biology.
