DEAN’S DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD


This is an Annual award given to a science alumnus who has outstanding accomplishments in his/her professional career, and who can serve as a role model for MEC students.

Dr. DeCosta is an Alumnus of MEC. She is a successful physician and has her own well established clinic in Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Carol V.R. De Costa is a graduate of S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo School of Medicine, Columbia University and Medgar Evers College. She received her residency training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. De Costa is Board Certified and is licensed in the State of New York and Georgia. She is also certified in Medical Acupuncture. Her acupuncture training included clinical practice in Chengdu, China. Her experience after residency includes Associate Directorship of Outpatient Rehabilitation Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital. She entered the challenging arena of private practice in 1998 and is presently the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Services, P.C. She is also on the clinical faculty of Mount Sinai Services at Elmhurst and Queens Hospitals. In addition, she teaches Family Practice to resident physicians at Brooklyn Hospital.

Dr. De Costa's areas of Special interest include Sports Medicine, and treatment of Musculoskeletal and Occupational injuries.  She gave an invited speech  at the 2009 Dean’s List Award Ceremony as Dean’s guest of honor. She regularly attend various Medgar Evers Events. We are very proud of Dr. De Costa and appreciative of her generous support to SSH and T’s and MEC endeavors.
