Why should I choose Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) courses at Medgar Evers College (MEC)?
If you are a first-time college student, returning to school, looking to change careers, or just want to improve your skills, we offer an exciting array of courses as you pursue opportunities to grow academically, personally, and professionally.  Our courses are taught by industry professionals, are affordably priced and relevant in today’s competitive marketplace.
   
How long are the programs and courses?
Since we offer a wide variety of programs and at different times of the day, ACE Certificate, Professional Development and Online classes vary in length of time.  Please be sure to check program specific web pages to see our schedule.
   
How much do the programs/courses cost?
The costs range from $50 to $1,195.
   
How do I register for a course?
You may choose one of the following registration options:  
  • Online: Register online with a debit or credit card: www.mec.cuny.edu/ACE
  • Call-in: 718-804-8850.  Register by phone with Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card or American Express.
  • Email: Download a registration form from www.mec.cuny.edu/ACE and email it to      ace.info@mec.cuny.edu
  • Walk-in: Register in person with credit/debit card or money order at 1534 Bedford Avenue, 2nd Floor, corner of Eastern Parkway.  We are located near the Franklin Avenue subway (2, 3, 4, 5, S) and B49 bus.  Total tuition fee must be paid at time of registration.
  • Mail:  To register by mail return your completed registration form with money order or credit/debit card information  to:

What forms of payment will MEC accept?
Medgar Evers College accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards, business checks, vouchers or money orders. Checks and money orders must be made payable to "Medgar Evers College/ACE". We do not accept personal checks and/or cash for payments.
   
How will I receive confirmation of my registration?
Confirmation of registration and payment will be sent to you by email approximately one (1) to three (3) business days after payment is received.
   
Is Financial Aid available for your courses?
Sallie Mae loans are available for courses more than $1,000.
   
Where are classes held?
Most classes are held on throughout the campus of MEC. Upon registration, you will receive a letter which will include your official class schedule, class location and receipt for payment of fees.   If your classroom location has not been assigned, please be sure to call us at 718-804-8850.
   
Do I need to bring anything to the first day of class?
Besides a pen and note pad, please carry your schedule to your first class to confirm registration. 
   
Do I need a MEC ID?
Yes. MEC students enrolled in a course or seminar are issued ID cards (non-photo). Students must present this ID card to enter the building that your class is given. 
   
What are the MEC cancellation and refund policies?
A 100% refund will be given if ACE cancels a class, or if a written request is received 2 business days before the 1st class meeting.  A 50% refund will be given if a written request is received at least 2 business days before the 2nd class meeting.
All refund requests must be submitted in writing. No refunds will be issued after the 2nd class meeting.
Credit/debit card refunds will be processed in approx. 3-5 business days. Money order refunds will be processed within 4-6 weeks via check (no cash refunds).
No refunds will be granted for courses that meet for 1 or 2 sessions unless a written
request is received 3 days before the 1st class.
   
What is ACE’s course cancellation policy?
Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) courses are subject to a minimum enrollment to run. 
 
ACE reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its established minimum enrollment. If ACE cancels a course, students may transfer to another class or receive a full refund (100%).
   
What are the requirements for enrolling in a course or certificate program?
There are no requirements for enrolling in courses taken for personal development. For most ACE Certificate Programs, we require a High School Diploma or GED.  But please be sure to check our program pages to learn of the programs’ entry requirements.
   
Does the cost of a course or a Certificate Program include the cost of books?
For most ACE courses, no. The cost of tuition does not include the cost of required texts. Detailed information about course books will be provided at the time of registration.
   
What days and times are the classes offered?
ACE classes are designed to meet the needs of a busy adult learner.  We offer classes during the day, evening, weekends and some are online. 
   
Are any ACE programs offered for credit? 
Our courses are non-credit.
   
What will I receive upon completion of the courses/programs?
For our Certificate courses, you will receive a certificate of completion certified by Medgar Evers College, CUNY.  For our non-certificate courses, upon request, you may receive a letter of completion. 
   
Will I receive a license after I complete a Certificate Requirements?
Completion of certain ACE certificate programs prepares you to take industry specific accreditation examinations.  Successful completion of the credential examination leads to industry recognized credentials.  However, at the present time, our programs do not lead to licensure in any specialty. 
   
Do you offer classes for kids?
At this time, ACE does not offer classes for children.

Are there any free courses or programs at MEC?
All ACE programs are tuition based.  However, we do offer free workshops throughout the academic year.  Please check our Special Events page on our website.
   
How long will it take to complete a Certificate Program?
The length of time it takes to complete a certificate program varies, program by program.  Please refer to our certificate pages to learn the schedules.
   
If I cannot make it to class, who do I notify?
If you are unable to attend a scheduled class, you must call the MEC office 718-804-8850.  The office personnel will inform your instructor of your absence. Please note: Students are responsible for any course work missed and of course, it’s always helpful for the student to inform their instructor of any planned absences in advance.
   
How many students are in ACE classes?
The number of students in our classes varies, from program to program.  On average, our class sizes range between 10 and 20 students.
