Research Interest:Organic Chemistry, Urban Air and Soil
Current Research:My research entails studies for heavy metals (particularly lead and mercury) in urban soils. The soils in and around demolished and abandoned structures, particularly those which have become “make-shift” urban playgrounds, or others areas for recreation will be initially targeted. Urban soils will also be studied for semi-volatile components (e.g. pesticides and pesticide-residues) using the EPA method, which essentially entails extraction, chromatography, and GC/MS analysis. Finally methods will be developed for studying urban soils for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
