Who We Are

The Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications works diligently to foster mutual understanding between Medgar Evers College (MEC) and its myriad constituent groups by strategically telling our story and forging relationships to help create exciting new ones. In addition to supporting MEC’s fundraising and resource development efforts (advancement), the Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications shares its portfolio of resources and expertise to maintain and heighten visibility for MEC’s schools, centers, departments, business units and programs.

Institutional Advancement

The Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications works to expand awareness of achievements and new developments at MEC. We leverage relationships and partnerships to support MEC’s mission to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of a liberal arts education.

The Departments within the Office are responsible for an extraordinary range of activities that provide the framework for building strong support and lasting relationships with a variety of constituencies, including alumni, community members, donors, the media, parents, and friends who invest philanthropically in the needs and priorities of MEC.

Alumni Relations

The Office of Alumni Relations creates opportunities for engagement between alumni and Medgar Evers College.  The Office creates and develops programs and events that build and promote a strong sense of community, opportunity, affinity and school pride for both students and alumni. The Office also works to instill a culture of philanthropy and raises funds in support of the Medgar Evers College family.

The Alumni Relations team works to create awareness and inspire trust in MEC’s tremendous, historic legacy that will endure for generations to come.

Our goal is to find opportunities which increase the following:

  • awareness of MEC’s history and brand
  • scholarships for students
  • funds to support academic discovery
  • endowment funds for programs, research and innovation
  • volunteerism and leadership development

Creative Services and Design

The Creative Services and Design team work to promote a positive and consistent image of the college for internal and external audiences. This is done through photography, videography, social media, web content and development, creative design, layout and production of MEC’s marketing and communications needs. Creative Services and Design manages a range of materials including the following:

  • publications and collateral materials
  • multimedia design and motion graphics
  • banners, advertisements, programs, brochures, and banners

Creative Services and Design is also responsible for creating multimedia banners on monitors throughout MEC, which aids in broadcasting programs, events, workshops, lectures, and conferences to the entire College Community. Any content which appears on the College monitors must be created in consultation with Graphic Services. Requests should be submitted via Please allow ten (10) business days for completion of standard requests. Additional time may be required for larger projects.

News and Information

The News and Information team highlight student, faculty, staff and alumni achievements through stories targeted at internal/external audiences. News and Information connects faculty and students with the media, and invites media to College to cover events and other programming and initiatives. The News and Information team supports marketing, institutional advancement, and development and alumni relations goals by highlighting thought leadership, research-based initiatives, program offerings, faculty expertise, and student achievements through the use of all available media and communications channels.

Space Reservations & Media Services

The Space Reservations and Media Services team provide a range of audio-visual equipment support for campus events, conferences and meetings. The team work closely with administration, department leaders, student groups, community partners, and external organizations to create, develop, and execute programs and events, which ensure a positive and accurate representation of MEC.

Institutional Partnerships

MEC appreciates the generous support it receives from corporations, foundations, and individual donors, which includes our alumni and friends. Such ongoing support enables MEC to achieve its goals, including funding scholarships, academic excellence, campus enhancements and much more.  Involvement via a gift or engagement creates lasting ties to MEC.
